Example
3
A person travels 7 metres towrds East ,then he turns right and
travels 2m,then travels 5m towards left and then proceeds 2m northwards
and finally travels 2m westwards .How far is he from his house in the
vertical direction?
solution:
The distance covered by the person in the vertical direction from his
house is equal to 2-2=0 m.
since 2 m is towards north and 2m towards south,he is 0 m away
from his in the vertical direction.
Example 4
Starting from one location,a person travels a distance of 5m
southwards,thentravels a distance of 7 mleftwards,then travels 5m
northwards and finally travels 6m eastwards to reach a new loction. What
is the distance he travelled from his previous location?
solution:
The distance travelled vertically is 5-5=0m and the distance
travelled horizontally is equal to 7+6=13m.Thus, the distance travelled
from his original location is equal to 13m.
Example 5:
A person starts from his house and goes 2m towads east, then turns
right and goes 25m and again goes towards east travelling 15m and turns

-----|
| |-7m--

25m | |18m
| |
-15m--------
The total distance covered horizontally is 2+15+7=24m and
vertically is 25-18=7m.Thus,the total distance is equal to
\/24*24+7*7=25m
